A Spark Of Light - Jodi Picoult
/Drama
Rating: 7.5/10
“Revenge, in theory, throbbed with adrenaline and was clean with conviction. In reality, it was rushing into a house on fire, and forgetting to map out your exit.”
This excerpt sums up the heart of this novel. This story surrounds the inflammatory subject of abortion. We have a gunman, hostages and stories of love and sacrifice. Jodi Picoult’s books cover a broad spectrum of moral and ethical issues by skimming the surface of the topic but digging to the heart of the characters. This ensures that you never feel lectured too, but always understand the seriousness of the theme. She uses multiple narrators and deftly handles the shifts from one viewpoint to another. Never shying away from the less popular of opinions.
Footnote: This novel is told in reverse, jumping back an hour at each break. I found that this technique was quite an astute way of connecting me, the reader, to each of the characters.
